Tourism Video contest & Film Festival
The Film Festival invites students to submit short films that promotes a tourism location in Japan or overseas. It is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their creativity while celebrating the magic of travel and discovery.
Contest Rules
Eligibility
Students at Nagasaki International University
High school students in Japan
Other students of the Kyushu Bunka Gakuen group
Videos may be submitted by individuals or groups
Videos must be appropriate for all ages
2. Film guidelines
Length: up to 5 minutes
Content:
Must promote a tourism location in Japan or overseas
Footage: all audio and video must be original or must have permission to be used
The majority must be shot on location at the selected tourism destination
Can be of any genre such as travel YouTuber, documentary, narrative, or artistic / experimental
Must be created by the participants
Must be appropriate for all ages and comply with YouTube’s guidelines
3. Categories
Japanese language
Primary spoken language is Japanese
Foreign language
Primary spoken language is a language other than Japanese
Must include Japanese subtitles for all speaking and relevant text
Awards
Each category: 1st place ¥30,000, 2nd place ¥20,000, 3rd place ¥10,000, Special selection ¥5,000
*Awards will be provided in the form of gift certificates
Important dates
Register for the contest: October 16th (Mon) ~ December 22nd (Fri)
Submit your video: January 10th (Wed)
Online preview and voting: January 21st ~ January 27th
Festival date & awards: January 28th (Sun)
Online festival viewing: January 29th ~ February 29th
Best practices
The most important thing to remember is that this is your video. Don't worry about what other people are making or what you think the judges want. Make a video that you are happy with. Just have fun and be creative.
Audio quality - Ensure that voices are clear and audible. Make sure that music / sound effects aren't too loud.
Cinematography - Make sure that subjects and people are clearly visible. Don't be afraid to take risks.
Text on screen - Use text on screen to give helpful information or to enhance your content.
Video quality - Videos must be HD quality or higher
Performance - Consider filling your video with action. Don't just stand and talk to the camera.
Editing - Consider using editing to make your videos smoother and more entertaining.
* Consider using one of the free and widely available editing apps.
(Eg: iMovie, Adobe Rush, etc)
Voiceover: Consider using a mix of talking directly to the camera and voiceover
BGM - Background music can enhance the feeling of your video. Make sure that it isn't too loud.
B-roll - What is B-Roll. Using B-Roll can improve the impact of your video.
