Application deadlines:

  • For Spring semester (April) enrolment: November 30
  • For Fall semester (September) enrolment: April 30

Application procedure:

  1. Send completed documents to the NIU International Center
  2. NIU confirms receipt of documents (within 1 week) 
  3. Student notified via email about acceptance to NIU (within 6 weeks of receiving documents) 
  4. Application for Certificate of Eligibility processed by Japanese Immigration
  5. Acceptance letter to NIU and Certificate of Eligibility sent to student’s home institution (within 10 weeks of receiving documents) 
  6. Apply for visa at Japanese embassy in home country
  7. If necessary, pay fees before departure

  8. Arrival in Japan, followed by orientation and course registration

Fees

Per semester tuition for international exchange students:

  • Students at partner institutions are eligible for up to 100% tuition discount. Contact your school's study abroad representative for more information.

OR

  • ¥324, 500 (¥277,500 for students with Level N1 of the JLPT)

*Students from non-partner schools are required to pay an additional entrance fee

*NIU does not currently offer 4-year degree programs entirely in English
